The Roaring Twenties! Called by some, the decade that defined the 20th century - Carefree, rich, bursting with action, sex, new invention and awesome music. Everything was on drugs and hyped up. The 1920s created a lot of firsts...
- First "talkie", or feature film with sound, in 1927. - First commercial radio-station, in 1920. - First microphone, in 1925. - First transatlantic airplane flight by Charles A. Lindbergh, in 1927.
Other important things.
Al Capone moves to Chicago in 1921.
Nationwide prohibition starts in January, 1920.
The Parker Pen Company introduces the Parker Duofold, 1921. One of the most famous fountain pens in history.
Where did the nickname "The Roaring Twenties" come from? From two things. One, the fact that it was an exciting time, and secondly, from the sea.
Yeah that's right. The SEA. Forty degrees south latitude. This was (and still is) known as the...Roaring Forties. The lack of any land further south than this created a wild, stormy stretch of ocean uninterrupted for miles around. Much like how the 1920s were wild and stormy - creating the name - The Roaring Twenties.
